Holders of non-digitised records created before 24 October 1998 containing personal data have one-month to get their handling of those records into full compliance with the Data Protection Act. Midnight on 23 October 2007 will see the transitional relief applying to those records come to an end. This will mean that all transitional reliefs under the Act - designed to give holders of personal data time to get compliant with the Act - will have expired.
There isn't a huge amount of personal data that most organisations can justify holding for more than 10 years, so it's hoped that most organisations will already have destroyed any information that would have been covered by the transitional relief. If not, unless your organisation has any great justification for holding on to this data the best advice is to destroy it.
