Just in case any of our Staffordshire readers are planning on spending a quiet weekend making cheese be warned, the description "Staffordshire Cheese" has just been given "protected status" under EU law.
Apparently the unique taste of the cheese is a result of the maize and grass silage grown in Staffordshire which gives the cow's milk a particular flavour. So intrepid cheese makers, make sure you source your milk from the Staffordshire Moorlands!
The not very humble Staffordshire Cheese now sits along side Stilton as one of the 35 "protected Status" products in the UK.
Talking of cheese, do take a look at the cheddarvision site. For some inexplicable reason this site with its web-cam recording a maturing cheddar cheese has proved incredibly popular.
Have a great weekend what ever you are doing!
