The World Intellectual Property Organisation ("WIPO") has today published its annual summary of proceedings conducted under its Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy for 2006. The summary highlights a marked increase in cybersquatting cases. WIPO has in part attributed this increase to the increased availability of software that can automatically register large numbers of expired domain names and "park" them on pay-per-click portal sites for a limited period of time without charge.
