CNN reports that following Google's recent expantion into the business software market with a set of Web-based subscription services, Microsoft is today to launch a scathing attack on the company's "cavalier" attitude to copyright protection. It seems Microsoft has good reason to be concerned as Google sees this new venture as a major revenue generator which could chip away at Microsoft's 15-year dominance of computer software.
Microsoft has brought out its own web based services called Office Live (although in the UK these are still in Beta). So, I think you're right that Microsoft is worried but it's fighting back. The Office Live services are based on Sharepoint Services but integrate with Microsoft's Desktop Office solutions such as Outlook and Word. There's an interesting blog post on this from Steve Clayton, Microsoft UK Partner Group, http://blogs.msdn.com/stevecla01/archive/2007/03/05/google-needs-to-read-the-hailstorm-history-books.aspx
