Microsoft has brought out its own web based services called Office Live (although in the UK these are still in Beta). So, I think you're right that Microsoft is worried but it's fighting back. The Office Live services are based on Sharepoint Services but integrate with Microsoft's Desktop Office solutions such as Outlook and Word.
