The UK entry for the Eurovision song contest Scooch are being attacked by Swedish pop star Pandora who claims the song "flying the flag" is "more than similar" to her "No regrets" released in 1999.
Pandora is demanding that Scooch be disqualified from the contest and has instructed lawyers from the Swedish Musicians Union. The BBC has issued a strong denial stating that the song is an original work by four writers who have never heard Pandora's song (which was not released in the UK).
Personally the song always makes me think of British Airways who made the phrase "flying the flag" its own long ago. The Scooch song would be the perfect backing for promoting any new budget airline BA may get its sticky paws on don't you think?
I never thought I would say this, but Charlotte Church has a point (well almost) the act is cringingly embarrassing BUT this is Eurovision and frankly you don't want to win if you can help it. Poor old Ireland learnt this lesson a little late after a run of very credible songs gave them consecutive wins. The event costs millions to host and is a logistical nightmare. So go on folks, on the big night vote for the country you would most like to give a big headache, you will enjoy yourself much more than if you concentrate on the quality of the music!
