When the Information Commissioners Office re-did its website a while ago, it sensibly included some RSS feeds, one for press releases and one for decisions under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Unfortunately, the FOI decisions feed doesn't actually do what you might think. You might think it would feed out case titles and case summaries on new decision notices as they are published, thereby allowing a really easy way of keeping on top of the decisions. It doesn't. It feeds out "November 2006", "October 2006" and so on.
Anyway, I've been meaning to take this up with the ICO and have today written asking for a more useful feed. Here's the body of my email to the ICO:
"Dear Sirs,
Its really great to see your new look website up and running and we particularly like the RSS newsfeeds. However, we have a request about making the FOI decisions feed more useful. At the moment, the feed delivers a "month by month" feed. This isn't actually that helpful as it doesn't alert to individual new decisions. Would it possible for you to update this so that it shows each decision and the short decision summary as decision is published. This would help practitioners and others interest see more readily the decisions as they are published.I look forward to hearing from you."
I'll update on the response.
I totally agree. Alerts to the individual decisions would be much more useful. The DCMS does this for their FOI requests.
