Gowers Review of IP published
The Gowers Review of Intellectual Property has just been published. UK intellectual property lawyers will probably regard this as Christmas having arrived early, and will be going over the Review to see what Andrew Gowers has to say.
The IPKat blog has managed to get the details and has posted a detailed story on the Review. Here's a few of the recommendations that the IPKat reports on:
- Copyright protection for sound recordings shouldn't be extended past its current 50 year duration
- There should be right to take a private copy (see our post about this issue from October)
- The European Community patent is a good idea, apparently
- A "fast track" system for small businesses registering trade marks
Like the rest of the country's IP lawyers, we'll be going through the detail of the Gower Review. Watch this space for more details on the Gowers Review recommendations.
Information from other law blogs and news sites
Most of the blog posts about this so far have been to summarise the Review rather than to comment on it.
