Charlie McCreevy, European Commissioner for Internal Markets and Services, has said that he recognises that there are legitimate doubts and concerns about having a unified European patent litigation system. However, he said that a unified system is needed:
We need to find a unified system which provides judicial independence, gives clarity and reliability to patent users while avoiding both over-centralisation and fragmentation.
